1-2-1 Resilience Building Programme – Supporting a Stronger You (SaSY)

This programme has been commissioned and funded.

What is it and who is it for?

Here at Square Pegs Round Holes we recognise the importance of being able to talk about the things that really matter to the children and young people we work with.  With this in mind we have developed SaSY which is a tailored resilience building programme delivered on a 1-2-1 basis.  Referrals come from schools, directly from social workers, Local Authorities and other agencies for children and young people who have either themselves identified a need for support or where the school, parents or other agencies have identified the need for additional support.

What we do

The Programme runs for a minimum of six sessions in a school or community setting.  Each session lasts for one hour.

The purpose of the programme is to support the development of strong, confident children and young people. We work with each child or young person on strategies to build their self esteem, confidence and resilience.  We explore with them how they make decisions, the impact of those choices and we work with them to manage their stresses and anxieties.  We use journaling as a tool to capture thoughts and feelings as well as a place to develop solutions.

Our approach is non directive i.e. participants arrive at their own conclusions following facilitated discussions.

The sessions are child/young person centric and the techniques, methods and tools we deploy are determined by their needs.  For example we use real life scenario led discussions as well as creative activities to explore issues and help them develop solutions.
